Afternoon clarification at 16:05 UTC: precise airport closure time removed because reported timezones differ. No reopening verified.
What happened
Saudi aviation authority GACA reports 12 people killed and 309 injured in the October 10 afternoon attack on King Khalid International Airport. Its statement, dated October 11, says some injuries are critical and material damage is still being assessed.
The confirmed toll supersedes the unknown count in yesterday's airport alert. It is not evidence of a separate October 11 attack.
Immediate impact
AP reports, citing Flightradar24, that closure was extended into Sunday. Reporting differs on the timezone of the stated closure window; no reopening is confirmed. Travellers should obtain current airline instructions before heading to the airport.
What it means
Our defense panel assesses that the confirmed casualties increase pressure for a response. AP reports Trump considering US participation in strikes on the Houthis; no decision is established in the reviewed reporting. Airport damage does not by itself establish lost oil production or interrupted export loading.
Watch for an official operating notice, revised casualty figures and any announced military decision.
