October 23, 2026. Reporting checked at 16:10 UTC. UKMTO posted the notice at 15:11 UTC, after this morning's brief was checked.
What happened
UKMTO warning 181-26 is a late report of a tanker hit by an unknown projectile 7 nautical miles northeast of Limah, Oman, at 17:15 UTC on October 22. The tanker was outbound through the Strait of Hormuz and continued to its next port of call. The notice does not name the ship, report casualties or identify an attacker.
Iranian state TV said on October 23, citing an unnamed source close to the IRGC Navy, that all movement of "non-compliant" vessels through Hormuz has been halted, CBS News reported. No independent source has confirmed a halt, and the latest JMIC transit count predates the claim.
Why it matters
UKMTO's first attack report since warnings 179-26 and 180-26, both posted October 21, reached the public list ~22 hours after the strike, so the list can run a day behind events in the strait. Earlier on October 22, before this strike, President Trump wrote that Iran was "making up fake hits, mines." UKMTO does not link this strike to the IRGC's earlier claim of seven vessels hit.
December Brent was at $117.17 at 16:00 UTC, up 3.5% from the $113.17 settlement, after a session high of $117.45 at 15:43 UTC.
What to watch
Watch for the ship's name and damage, JMIC Update 108 and its transit count, and the Brent settlement. Our morning brief covers the strike-plan reporting.
