October 26, 2026. Reporting checked at 16:10 UTC. UKMTO posted the notice at 09:20 UTC, after this morning's brief was checked.

What happened

UKMTO warning 182-26 is a verified late report: a tanker transiting outbound through the Strait of Hormuz was struck by an unknown projectile at ~08:30 UTC on October 23 and disabled. The crew are reported safe. UKMTO has no damage assessment or environmental impact report and names neither the ship nor an attacker.

Egypt's parliament on Monday authorized President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to give Saudi Arabia military support against Houthi attacks, the Associated Press reported. A regional official told AP the support is defensive, covers air defense systems and aircraft, and will not include ground troops in Yemen.

Why it matters

Warning 182-26 surfaced ~73 hours after the strike, against ~22 hours for 181-26, so the public list is running well behind the water. A disabled ship is a heavier outcome than the October 22 Limah tanker, which kept sailing.

Egyptian air defense would add cover for Saudi oil sites the Houthis claim to have hit with drones; Riyadh has not confirmed any damage.

Separately, CNN reported that US forces could launch major operations against Iran "within 96 hours of receiving" an order from President Trump, with a target list that includes Iranian energy infrastructure. Officials expect any order most likely after the November 3 midterms.

December Brent was at $117.03 at 16:00 UTC, up 0.3% on Friday's $116.72 settlement after a $114.00 low.

What to watch

Watch for the ship's name and damage, any Egyptian deployment, and the Brent settlement. Iranian state media said Iran, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey agreed in Tehran to continue talks on regional security; our morning brief covers the talks.
